Greater Tortue Ahmeyim project, Senegal – update

Name of the Project
Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) project.
Location
About 120 km offshore in a water depth of 2850 m, off the shore of Mauritania, and in the Saint-Louis Profond block, off the shore of Senegal.
Project Owner/s
A partnership comprising bp, Petrosen, Société Mauritanienne des Hydrocarbures and Kosmos Energy.
Project Description
The GTA project was granted the status of National Project of Strategic Importance by the Presidents of Mauritania and Senegal in July 2021.
GTA Phase 1 is set to produce about 2.3-million tonnes a year of liquefied natural gas (LNG). The project will produce gas from reservoirs in deep water, about 120 km offshore, through a subsea system to a floating production and storage offloading (FPSO) vessel, which will initially process the gas, removing heavier hydrocarbon components.
The gas will then be transported by pipeline to the floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) vessel at the GTA hub where it will be cryogenically cooled in the vessel’s four liquefaction trains and stored before transfer to LNG carriers.
Phase 2 will evaluate a gravity-based structure (GBS) as the basis for the project, with a total capacity of between 2.5-million and three-million tonnes a year.
GBS LNG developments have a static connection to the seabed.
The concept design will include new wells and subsea equipment, integrating with and expanding on existing GTA infrastructure.
The partnership will consider powering LNG liquefication using electricity to lower operational emissions.
